Chapters & Affiliates
LOHV Chapters and Affiliates recognize that animal protection requires laws and enforcement of those laws. Animal exploitation is a political issue, not just a moral one, and LOHV aims to make animal protection a mainstream political issue by building support among citizens, activists, political parties, candidates, and elected representatives.
LOHV Chapters are independently operating entities. Unlike many animal protection organizations, which are established as 501{c}{3} with the IRS, contributions to LOHV are not tax-deductible due to our efforts to influence the political process.
LOHV Chapters and Affiliates are establishing its political influence first by developing grassroots movements at the state and local levels.
LOHV Chapters and Affiliates are non-partisan and have endorsed candidates running on the Republican, Democratic, Green, and Independent platforms, among others. We endorse candidates strictly based on their expressed commitment to working with us on passing legislation to protect animals and on the strength of their electoral campaigns.

League of Humane Voters Of New Jersey
LEAGUE OF HUMANE VOTERS OF NEW JERSEY
By uniting voters who care about animals, and working in concert with state and national conservation and humane organizations, as well as local and county groups and individuals, LOHVNJ has formed the largest pro-animal voting bloc in New Jersey’s history. Our goal is to get the strongest animal protective laws possible.
Politicians take issues seriously — when voters do
Sign up with the League of Humane Voters of New Jersey; add your name to the growing list of New Jersey residents who promise to vote for animal-friendly politicians.
IMPORTANT VOTER INFORMATION – ELECTION RESULTS
LOHVNJ has always worked strenuously to elect candidates with impressive animal protection voting records.
Click here for our previous election work. Our sincere appreciation to LOHVNJ members who canvass, knock on doors and phone bank for animal-protection candidates.
LOHVNJ works for animal protection:
- Lobbying for animal-friendly laws;
- Campaigning for candidates who support animal protection;
- Persuading politicians that they must take animal protection issues seriously because their constituents do;
- Acting as the political voice for all animals in New Jersey — wildlife, cats and dogs, roosters and dogs used in animal fighting, and all animals who suffer from abuse and exploitation, and,
- Demonstrating that animal advocates are one of the largest voting blocs. Together, we demand fair representation in Trenton.
Strength in numbers
LOHVNJ’s potential political strength is substantial and mainstream:
- Over 1.8 million New Jersey households have companion animals. [1]
- 1,713,000 New Jersey wildlife watchers generate $537,388,000 in revenues for our state. [2]
- Thousands of voters have already joined LOHV-NJ!
