About LOHV

A strictly non-partisan organization, working for the animals through the vote.

What Is the League of Humane Voters?

The League of Humane Voters, also known as LOHV, is an electioneering and lobbying political action committee (PAC). Its focus is to elect representatives who will vote for and enforce animal-protection laws, and to lobby for the enactment of such laws.

Who Is LOHV?

We are voters who feel strongly about animal protection — a network of autonomous state chapters who can influence their communities' elections and, together, carry statewide influence. Our chapters are made up of friends of animals who want to see animal-protective laws passed, covering domestic animals, farmed animals, animals in laboratories, animals abused for entertainment, and wild animals.

Why Is LOHV Needed?

Animal-protective legislation is not on the radar screen of most municipal boards, state legislatures, or Congress. Where animal-protection laws are sought, those who would exploit animals tend to be favored over the animal protectionists. LOHV intends to change that.

By organizing the animal-protective vote, the League of Humane Voters turns compassion into political power. We will not allow our votes to be divided and conquered, and we will not allow other issues to diminish our vote — we focus our vote on bringing about a better life for animals.

While we can't compete with the millions of dollars in political contributions from animal exploiters, we can out-vote them. You can add your vote by contacting an LOHV chapter in your area — and if there is no affiliate near you, you can start your own.

How LOHV Works

  • Lobbying for animal-friendly legislation.
  • Campaigning for candidates who support animal protection.
  • Being a strong political voice for all animals — domestic, wildlife, farm, and animals who suffer from abuse and exploitation.
  • Demonstrating that animal advocates are a substantial voting bloc.

Our Structure

LOHV chapters are independently operating entities. Each chapter focuses on its own state and local elections while being part of a national network that shares strategy, resources, and amplified credibility.

Please note: Unlike many animal-protection organizations established as IRS 501(c)(3) groups, contributions to the LOHV are not tax-deductible because of our work to influence the political process.
